A. Most procedures from simple bonding to complete smile makeover can be completed in as little as one to three visits. Our doctors are trained to work efficiently, keeping you in the office as little as possible.

A. Today’s materials are actually stronger than natural teeth and are far more resistant to wearing and breakage than your natural teeth. With regular checkups and care, your smile should last for many, many years.
Q. I’ve always been afraid of the dentist. How can I feel more comfortable?
A. Our team is highly trained in techniques that will make your procedure surprisingly comfortable. By working quickly and using technology such as drill-free dentistry, digital x-rays, advanced bonding, and oral sedation; we are able to be very conservative in your treatment.

Q. What are my payment options?
A. We gladly accept cash, checks, credit cards or offer 3rd party financing, such as Care Credit. This financing company allows you to stretch the payments for your new smile over time, making the monthly payments comfortable for you.
Q. Will my insurance pay for these procedures?
A. Since every insurance company is different, it is best to check which plan is best for you.
Q. I have frequent jaw pain, and sometimes my jaw pops and clicks when I chew. What is causing this?
A. You may have TMD (temporomandibular disorder) also called TMJ. You should see your dentist or call us for an evaluation. We can help relieve your jaw pain.
Q. Is there a difference in amalgam fillings vs. tooth colored fillings?
A. Yes! Today’s tooth color filling material is a suitable replacement for the old silver mercury fillings. At Topeka Smiles, we prefer the use of the tooth colored fillings and know you will too.
Q. What age should I bring my child in to see the Dentist?
A. Usually, a child will need to see the dentist around the age of 3. During their "Fun Visit," the child will become familiar with the dental rooms, take a ride in the chair, meet the dentist, and may have their teeth cleaned and polished. We aim to have their first visit a positive one, since this will last with them throughout their lifetime.
Q. What is Periodontal disease?
A. Periodontal disease is an infection that affects the tissues and bone that support the teeth. The mouth is filled with countless bacteria. Periodontal disease begins when certain bacterial plaque (the sticky, colorless film that constantly forms on the teeth and surfaces lining the mouth) produce toxins and enzymes that cause inflammation of the gums. The resulting inflammation, which may be painless, can damage the attachment of the gums and bone to the teeth causing periodontal pockets. Left untreated, periodontal disease eventually will lead to tooth loss. Recent research also confirms a link between periodontal diease and other health concerns such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, bacterial pneumonia and increased risk during pergnancy.
Q. How do I heal periodontal pockets, resulting from periodontal disease?
A. The bone loss that occurs during periodontal disease can not be regained, but you can stop it and prevent any further bone loss. Periodontal pocketing can be treated by a in-depth cleaning called Scaling and Root Planing (SRP.) SRP is a special type of cleaning done by a registered dental hygienist. This procedure removes plaque and tarter from beneath the gums on the root surfaces that causes the pocketing. Local anesthetic may be given to reduce discomfort. After SRP, frequent trips to the hygienist may be required to monitor healing.
